Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency, a site with videos and guest posts on the representations of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. She's committed to removing stereotypes about women and how they are depicted in pop culture. In addition she has a mission to increase awareness about online harassment targeted towards women as well as the marginalized communities of people. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in social thought and politics from York University. She is also a highly-respected public presenter. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years Sarkeesian was captivated by the issue of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. While still at school in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to create a web series that would examine gender representation in video games. She was the subject of an online harassment campaign. However, the attacks did not discourage her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. She has won numerous awards for her numerous prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit that explores the representations of women within pop media narratives.
